WHAT IS AUTO X?
Could an expert or experienced driver explain to me what Auto X means I've seen some videos and I see people racing in a parking lot with some cones as guides I remember as a kid racing gocarts in a parking lot but never an actual full blown car. I always thought that real racing was done on the track/street. Every year I hear more and more people getting into auto Xing What exactly is it? Is there an actual track? Pardon my ignorance.
If you want to spend an entire day in the hot sun in a dirty, noisy parking lot so that you can drive your car for about 2-3 minutes, then autocross (autoX) is for you
. It only costs about $30-40 for the day.
It's a lot of fun and the people are great. Come to the next one at Moroso, run by Equipe Rapide Sports Car Club and see for yourself.
HPDE (High Performance Driver's Education) events like the ones run by Chin Motorsports are conducted on race tracks (like Homestead and Sebring). These events give you over 3 hours of track time and cost about $300 for the day.
To me, racing means competing against others for time or position. That would include autocross, time trials, wheel to wheel club racing on the track, and drag strip racing. Street "racing" is real, but illegal. HPDE events are non-competitive events designed to allow you to drive your high-performance car on a track with like-minded enthusiasts.

I couldn't have said it any better Josh.
But, to add my 02 cents. I've attended a couple of AutoX events and never competed, however last week I competed for the first time and had a great time. It's nothing close to Chin, but still very exciting. I'll be attending the upcoming event at Moroso.
