Car wont go into 5th or 6th- only Reverse?!
Hey guys,
I just recently did a stage 5 CompClutch and light weight flywheel in my S2. After the job was done, the shifter was REALLY loose, extreme play.. You can rotate 2" in diameter the shifter whilst being in any gear- Purchased the gear bushing cage / bushing cap for $8.99 from my local honda. Swapped the parts in and the gear is PERFECT now, very stiff how it use to be.
HOWEVER; When putting the car into 6th gear, WITHOUT pushing down on the gear, it automatically goes into REVERSE... there's no 5TH gear what-so-ever... It's automatically engaging the pathway for reverse and thus not going into 5th........ How can this be possible?! What could the the issue? (I replaced the little cap thing @ the bottom of the gear lever when you take it out, as well as the cage / cartridge thingy that the gear "ball" sits in)

Try pulling the shift lever upwards when putting it into 5/6
If that works then you forgot to install the spring under the shift lever or there's an issue with it

^ this, do you recall seeing the long 3 inch spring under the shifter when you installed it ?
As for installing the gear properly, there's literally only 1 way to install / seat the shifter... and its in properly.. cause it goes into gears 1-4..
**A service rep @ Honda Brampton said that upon un-installing the tranny, the mechanic was suppose to uninstall the shifter (3 bolts) FIRST; and then drop the tranny, rather he may have pried it and damaged something when the shifter hit the frame? Is this possible? And if so, what did he bend?! Because when my S2 went in, the bushing/shifter was stiff, when getting the car back, it was super sloppy / play in the shifter- thus replaced the bushing. Could that story add up? Him forcing the trans out, damaging the bushing (thats why so much play) and now somethings bent internally? If so, whats damaged?

I guess anything is possible when it comes to damaged parts. If the spring was installed, then maybe the shifter cage is installed backwards, those would be first two parts I would check first.

How can the shifter cage be installed backwards? There's a groove on the cage that allows you to slide it into the tranny-plate-thingy... I just slid the cage on.. didnt pay attention to the shifter positioning, is there a SPECIFIC way the cage is suppose to pop onto that ball / shifter? Cause my guy said he did pop it off and rotate it 180.. but who knows :|
