What did they quote to get the key cut and programmed ? I could really use a spare and this looks awesome
Honda dealer told me the cut is $7.80 plus tax and program is 1 hour labor $110.

I'm gonna try this guy cutting a cheap key for my Civic first and see how it goes.

Hmmm 110 for labour eh.. well I sent that guy an email from that ad to see if he can do it. Otherways Ill probably just stop being cheap and go to the dealer

I sent that guy a message. $50 for standard honda key and $70 for S2000 key. Cut and programmed. Seems quite cheap. You think this is for real?

I'm going to see him on Sat. I'll let you know.

Please let me know. He is located in Oakville seems a little too far to travel. Oakville is around 45mins away for me. Don't know if it's worth the drive.

I got a Civic key cut from the Kijiji ad guy in Oakville and it works great. The cost was $50 for the key, cut and program. The guy was friendly and knowledgable and into S2000's. He actually clones the original key so technically he doesn't even need to see the car. I got him to cut an S2000 key for me too.

This guy charges $50 for the basic Honda key, cut and program that fits any S2000 up to and including 05. The fancy S2000 key like the 04's and 05's have are in stock and he charges $70 for the key , cut and program. He can't do the program on 06 and newer S2000's because he doesn't have the module. He can cut those though.

So to answer your question, yes, I think he's for real.

Thanks that sounds great. Now I just have to decide if I'm willing to drive that far for a spare key. I don't have a spare key for my Honda Prelude that I drive in the winters. Maybe it'll be worth the trip if I get 2 keys made.

The guy did say he works downtown so if that was more convienient you could drop off and pick up in the city during the week. The only problem is that process would take a bit longer.

What about us guys using a full standalone? I don't have factory ecu. How would that work?

in that case you don't need the chip copied just the key cut.

Make sure the key light on your dash goes out before you start the car, if not you're screwed.

All Honda's after the year 2000 have an immobilizer in the ECU that requires a signal from the key in order to start the car and keep it running. If you have a $5 key cut and try to start the car with it, the car will shut off after ~15 seconds and the ECU will need to be reprogrammed.

Unless you just get the key cut and only use it to unlock the doors and truck, you'll be fine doing that.
