Barrichello crushes the Mugello track record
Two seconds a lap faster, with the new F2004
Rubens Barrichello had a memorable day at the Mugello circuit today, crushing the previous lap record.
For his last day at the Italian circuit, the Brazilian completed 74 laps (including 9 on the short version of the track), with an impressive fastest time of 1'18"704. The previous lap record was held by Michael Schumacher in 1'20"943 since June 2002.
The Scuderia's testing programme will resume tomorrow at the Fiorano circuit, this time with Michael Schumacher.

Doug...check out what RB had to say about Renault...
Barrichello: F2004 has No Weak Points
Monday February 9th, 2004
By Michele Lostia
Brazilian Rubens Barrichello said the new Ferrari F2004 has no weaknesses after driving the car for the first time last weekend.
Barrichello debuted with the new car on Saturday, and despite his session being hampered by the rain the Brazilian was pleased with the F2004's performance.
"With the rain, it isn't easy to understand the car fully. However, I can say that I have not noticed even one weak point," Barrichello told Gazzetta dello Sport. "It is very positive in every way, and has been bettered in all its characteristics.
"Its short wheelbase might turn out to be one of its most important solutions, and the thing that has satisfied me the most is its lower driving position, which allows for a greater sensitivity.
"We've never been this fast in the wet here. It's hard to make comparisons with similar situations, so it doesn't make sense to talk about records. But there are things a driver can feel, and I felt it immediately, and the stopwatch confirmed it."
The Ferrari driver also said that, of all of Ferrari's rivals, he had been more impressed by Renault.
"It's hard to say now, but the McLaren hasn't been too fast and I don't know whether it's a heavy fuel load or some problems," he said. "The Williams looked strong only for one lap. The Renault is the one that impressed me the most: it is truly a great car."
Sorry Simon...the Mercedes and BMW is not impressing to date ....

Although Simon has weighed in on testing, and for the most part he has a valid point, bottom line is, not all testing results are worthless. I mean after all, you don't go two full seconds faster in a new car and not have something to be proud of or have something that justifies your research and development are going in the right direction.
I wonder if there is enough time to buy a new hat before I come up for the auto show...
