Here's a thought. I wonder why u decided to use 0W30 wt oil in your car when Honda absolutely reccomends 10W30 to be used all year around. I am actually surprised the dealer allowed you to use that wt oil in the car. Just be aware, they could use that against you when you try to fight for your warranty.

ok guys here's the update...

towed it back to ideal honda. the shop foreman took a look at the car and he suspects that a piston rod went. very good chance that a new engine will be needed. they're going to try and get warranty from honda canada so i had to give them authorization to tear down the engine for further analysis. they asked me what happened, i told them. i had the impression they didn't really believe me because they asked me about mis-shifting 2-3 times. i pointed out the oil stains on the bottom of the engine and the supporting brace (not sure what it's called) below the engine. they said that "it's normal".....WTF

anyway, i'm going to find out what the verdict is either late today or tomorrow

i don't know what they can possibly come up with to try and swing warranty from honda canada, but i hope to god they'll be able to get it..

if not and it needs a new engine, it's likely that i'm going to give up the car because i don't want to pay for the parts and repair.

my fingers are crossed for you.

if its a piston rod - Im no mechanic but I would say that that is irrelevant to your oil issues.

.....that's an over-rev situation....plain and simple.

Nope, the piston rod would break due to oil starvation.

Tugz, the German Castrol 0w30 is actually "thicker" at operating temperatures than most "regular" 10w30's. Don't look at the first number, that is only for cold flow, the second number is relevant for operating temps, and it's still a 30 weight.
Also, the GC is much superior to any dino 10w30.. his problem was not quality or viscosity of the oil, it was a LACK of oil, period.

Btw, oil stains on the engine/brace are NOT normal.. maybe a few days after you changed the oil, they should wipe down the excess anyway.. not 4,000km and 2 months later.

I thought when you overrev, usually it's the valvetrain that breaks, not the bottom end?
