Insurance Coverage
A co-worker of mine is looking to insure his MR2, but his insurance company will not cover him if the car is lowered or has a CF hood, or basically any mod.
Does anyone have all their mods listed with their insurance company, and if so, what company are you with?

There was an article in the Star a few weeks back where someone got into an accident and had lowering springs or something. The result was the insurance company eventually paid the claim (after refusing the 1st time - sound familiar?) But then dropped him afterwards because he failed to disclose the modification to the car.
This really starts to irk me because it blurs the line as to what a "modification" is. Tires, brake pads, shocks, clutch... all are consumable items. If I replace my worn parts with non Honda parts, I'm I now out of compliance?

I see where you are going Ron,
modification is such a vague term.
Could using synthetic oil be a mod?
Better call up the insurance company itself (all varies) and ask them for detail print outs, and put it in your car!

I run a Management Training company, and we do work for the Aftermarket Automotive Industry. I'm not sure about Canada, but I know that in the US, it is illegal for a manufacturer to void your warranty for not servicing your vehicle at one of their shops, or for not using their OEM parts. For instance, if your clutch is shot, and you decide to replace it with an aftermarket clutch, as opposed to an OEM clutch... it is illegal for your manufacturer to void your warranty if something goes wrong. Going by that, I don't see how an insurance company could void your insurance for having non-OEM parts on your car. In many instances, non-OEM parts are actually of better quality than OEM parts. If you replace your OEM brakes with a set of Wilwood's, you actually end up driving a safer car, being that it can stop better!

Couldn't have put it better myself.
There really is no company more crooked than an insurance company.
In B.C., we have to go through ICBC for auto insurance. Last time I checked, monopolies were illegal... except when the government decides to do it I guess.
