Insurance Coverage
^ But of course, whatever the gov't does it must be justified!
Ron, basically there's still a huge gray area in terms of coverage for aftermarket parts, different ins. companies (referred to as scum bucket(s) here after) will have different policies, the most important thing is to get whatever you need covered in writing so in case you need to make a claim, the scum buckets can't twist their words.
The only way to do this is inquire to your not-so-friendly scum bucket agent. However I do suggest that you do inquire anonymously, as even providing your info to them before inquiry could allow them to put a note in your record flagging you as a guy w/ the potential to mod your car; giving them a stupid excuse to jack up your premiums for no reason.
W/ that said, personally I never told my insurance company about any of my mods on the Civic because, frankly the amount added up wasn't justifiable for the increase in premiums I've seen and after a while the parts would depreciate anyways, they'd be worthless to cover. And I was banking on the fact that I would not cause an accident (silly assumption, I know) to ever have to worry about making such a claim.
So if your buddy plans to do just springs and CF hood, I'd say forget about telling the scum buckets - if he looses the hood and springs, its still cheaper than paying extra premiums to get the replaced. Now if he plans to do that car up to the tits, then that's a different question.
