Default Key Question

I normally use the remote to lock, unlock, and open the trunk. I tried the ignition key on the trunk the other day and it does not work. It doesn’t work on the glove box either. Do you need a second key for the trunk and glove box? Is this normal?

Are you trying to use the valet key to open the trunk and glove box? Try using your master key and should work.

You're describing how the grey Valet key works. Regular keys are either black or a more fancy black/silver.

Your vehicle may have had a new ignition cylinder installed at some point, which comes with new keys, and only the cylinder for the ignition was changed.

Does it work on the drivers door?

The master key works in both doors and the glovebox. Just does not work in the trunk. Perhaps the trunk lid was replaced and they didn't swap the lock? Is there a way to rekey the lock?

If I understand correctly none of your keys will turn the trunk lock and open it. Looks like you can spend $60 and fix this yourself or check if a locksmith can just re-tumbler the existing lock for one the keys you currently have which is what I'd do rather than carry yet another key.

The key lock in the trunk lid is mechanical so if any keys turn in the lock the problem is the lock mechanism is disconnected from the trunk latch somehow. But as noted if the lock itself won't turn you need it replaced or re-keyed.
