Next year I want to put an aftermarket exhaust on my S. I have added over 40 pounds because of the Triple-H Rollbar and I could use a bit of weight savings. I would like to buy this new component over the winter so the Moose run, 10/11>10/13, might be my last chance to hear the sweat sounds of modified S2000s.
Here is what I need
- please tell me what aftermarket exhaust you have if you are coming to the Moose
- let me know if it has any resonance at 105 to 120 kph
I want to be sure to snag a quick ride with you so I can hear the sound from within the car.
So have at it, who has what?
DoGMaN = Spugen dual N1
Matrix = Invidia
S2kRob = Amuse dual
s2ksimon = Spoon N1, single outlet
Who else?

OK I'll start.
I have the Spugen dual N1
There is quite a lot of resonance in the 3000 - 4500 rpm after that its sweet. With the silencers in its excellent in all areas.
You may drive my car

Invidia
It does drone @ 3000-4500 rpm also.
You've heard my car with the silencers in and out.
Drawback - I had an additional 2 hangers welded on to ensure the exhaust does not sway. Since you track often, I think you will need to do this also.
Big Plus - Sound above 5000 rpm is great. Several people at the autoxs have told me it sounds close to a 355 .
PS - hope you are looking for a quiet exhaust...if so, this ain't it!
Well, that's about it, oh wait ...there now I'm done .

I have the Spoon N1. Single outlet.
Silencers Out
Farily loud I'll admit deep resonance droning at 4000rpm.
Pros - can wake the dead, scare kids, and screeeeeeam to 9k, price
Cons - loud interior sound which may cause headache to some people
Silencers in
Pros : higher pitch in lower rpms, liveable .db level inside the car
Cons - does not give me a "smooth" powerband transition, and makes my acceleration "notchy"
You're welcome to "heal toe" my car any day you like
Also, if it is weight that you are highly considering, then I must recommend the single outlet J's N1 and JIC as they are Titanium are REALLLLY light and nice sounding as well.
Since you track quite a bit, I would not rule out Mugen (James') nor Invidia (Marco's) as IMO I think those guys have the best "track" sounding s2000's. And I know you would wanna "shake things up" at the Glen heh heh heh . But the Mugen I think weighs the most out of all the choices so far I think ?
Overall, I think on my next s2000 I am going back to dual outlets. I am opting for Marco's Invidia or JIC Titanium. I would rank those amongst my favourites.
so before I continue rambling like an idiot about exhausts.... I'll stop..
Just My $.02

Doug,
I've got the Amuse dual.
First off, even the dual dumped off 37 pounds from the car. The single dumps about 40 off.
It looks fantastic, sounds great under power, and for the most part is very liveable in terms of day to day driving.
The exhaust has a Heimholtz resonator just like stock, so the boominess between 3000-5000 is reduced considerably.
On the over-run at low revs is when the boominess is at it's loudest.
But I love it, it is simply one of the very best exhausts you can buy for the car.
The downside is that it's not cheap by any stretch of the imagination.
I'll know what it sounds like at the track before you get here, but I almost certainly won't be at the Moose, so maybe you can swing by at some point in the city to sample it. It's worth it.

Okay guys, thanks! This is good info.
Vince, you can drive me to the store when I'm up there,
but we have to travel in miles per hour
Marco, I remember clearly what yours sounds like, well that is as soon as that valet beeper shut up. Thanks for the tip on the extra bracket welds, clearly you are right on about the sway.
Rob, I may take you up on that offer when I'm up for the Moose. The weight savings is sort of important to me only because I have added so much steel to the back of the car because of the roll bar. Then I go to the track and add 42 more pounds with the hardtop. So at the track I'm pushing almost 90 extra pounds. I will be checking the weight on all my options.
Simon, thanks. I will also look into some of the other names you mentioned. As far as the Mugen is considered, that might be more than I want to spend. I have to do trailer and hitch next year. Then I can come up and play with you guys.
