out of country plates?

Where was your driver's license issued? If it doesn't match the plates there will be lots of questions from vehicle registration and insurance.

If you're just in Canada temporarily on a work or student visa you should be fine, but check with Canadian customs/immigration. I don't think this is a RIV issue.
I'm at university in Boston, under US customs law anyone on a temporary student/work visa can have an out of country plated car in the US without having to register in the state of temporary residence for up to a year. You just have to bring the car in/out of the country once every 12 months. My insurance company is aware that I'm temporarily residing there so no insurance issues.
