Windex is not a "requirement". Washing the car will do the same job. Plexus smooths out the plastic surface and optically hides fine scratches. You should not go through a winter without the cling tint. Plexus is NOT a protectant.
I have a cotton towel that I place in the rear tray so that the plastic does not rub against the plastic tray. also I put a rolled up towel on the outside of the plastic where where it folds. if you ever check out my rear window it looks just the same as when it was new.
