I remember early on in the development (Exige) they had Honda engines in them, from the type R, and then a little later the F20??. But they were all prototypes.

Of the three engines they could have chosen, the F20C, the K20A and the Celica, they chose the one with the least power, the least potential and the worst transmission.

A K20A probably would have been the most potential, but the F20C would be the best suited to the car.

Al - those were not prototypes, the were bodies brought to North America as kit cars and engines were put in them by 3G racing I think. Not Lotus.

They didn't "Choose" the Toyota Engine, when they were going to make the car, they went to Honda, and said.."we want to buy your engines" and Honda said no, so they had to go with Toyota, they are the only ones that said yes.

It could have been a rover
