I guess HST will be paid once you go to MTO to transfer the title to your own name?
I am going to finish up the import process today or tomorrow and once I get to the minisrty to put Ontario plates on, I'll let you know if I pay anything else.

Hmm interesting! Yeah let us know for sure as a friend of mine is about to start the process of bringing in a car as well so this is very helpful info. I knew the process before, but now that the taxes have joined into one HST I am no longer sure of how this works.
Thanks!!
Thanks!!

I'm still a little confused about that. At the border I payed about $1,000 and it said it was for GTS/HST but $1,000 is too cheap considering the price of the car.

I think the $1000 is the 6% duty...based on conversion of your sale price to CND. You will pay the HST once you register and get your plate.
exactly right.
You only pay 6% duty at the border.
You will pay the HST when you register with the MTO. 14% isnt it?

Here is what I payed at the border to clear it up
Duty $1,100
GST $1,000
Air con $100
Then when I went to the ministry
PST $1,500
So from that we can safely say they dont hit you with HST all in one shot, but instead they split it up.

HST is 13%.
And Duty is 6.1%.. Which is more than $1000 from his original purchase price (as you can see per his break down above my post).
Sweet thanks for the details! Good to know

Anyway, how did you get around the decal warnings and DRLs?
