Default MAP Sensor

The idle on my 01 AP1 has been kind of weird lately. It's been idling low, and even when it idles correctly, it sputters/pops a little bit. Otherwise, it drives fine. It seems to be getting progressively worse, so I think it's sensor on its way out.

Does anyone local have a known working MAP sensor coil pack I could try? Since it only happens at idle, I'm suspecting this or the TPS, and I really don't want to just throw money at this thing...

Did you try cleaning your IAC?

Yep. I cleaned it last year, so when I pulled it off this time it was fine. I cleaned what little bit of stuff there was in there out anyways.

Spark plugs are brand new - I replaced them yesterday, but they didn't change anything.

Thanks for the suggestion, though!

Try a MAP wack, give it a few good taps with the handle of a screwdriver

FYI there is/was a TSB on this issue and there is a kit part number for the revised MAP for the AP1 cars.

I've tried that as well as securing the connector with some rubber bands, since I've read they can come loose.

However, it looks like someone might have MAP wack'd it a little too hard, since it looks like the case might be cracked...

Interesting...I'll look it up. My car's an 01, and I bought it with 38k miles on it, so I have no reason to think it isn't the original style.

Honda came up with the MAP kit to fix the issue of the bad connection. There is a bracket and a zip tie that comes with the new MAP.

"Rented" a MAP sensor today and no luck. I'm going to check the valve lash tomorrow, but I think I'd be able to hear it if they were so far out as to cause running problems...

Have you read the codes to see if there are any pending faults? You may want to try an ECU reset. Pull the ecu fuse and leave it out for a few minutes. Reinstall fuse then start the ca and let it idle with nothing running until the cooling fan comes on three times. The ecu will relearn idle and you should be good to go. You are supposed to do this anytime you make a change to the engine.

Yep I've tried resetting the ECU. I also did it after I changed the MAP sensor out. No luck. I checked the valve lash yesterday, a couple were a little tight, but nothing that would cause any serious running problems.

Later in the day I got a check engine light, but the car's behavior hadn't changed. I checked to make sure I had remembered to plug all the sensors you remove for the valve adjustment. Everything was good, so I had the code read. The reader pulled a cylinder 1 misfire, so I moved the coil pack to another cylinder and reset the ECU to see if the misfire moves with it. So far, no CEL. I'm wondering if that coil pack is just starting to fail.

Thanks for the tips everyone! It looks like I'll have to wait and see, unless someone has an extra coil pack they'd let me try.

The coil pack could have a internal crack or wire not making good contact. Makes Sence that this could be a coil pack issue.
