I've done the rental thing around more than a few twisties (don't ever buy a used rental ). It's not that big a deal. On the road we shouldn't be driving more than about 7 or 8/10's in any car. Race tracks or autocrosses are where we can find out what 10/10's is like.

As for the roomate request, I may be interested. How many people does the cabin sleep? I'm asking because I'm hoping to come with a +1.
rental car thats probably abused already + unproven car in one of the more challenging roads in the world + completely unknown car to the driver + the enevitable shenannigans that the dragon brings out in the driver = too many strikes against someone for me to to think its a stellar idea.

You are not going up there to "drive miss daisy to the farmers market". I dont care who you are, when you get up there, you are going to be pushing whatever car you are in well beyond "normal driving".

call me too cautious but, when I see a friend preparing to do something overtly dangerous, I am going to at least voice my opinion and warning about it. i would expect any of my friends to do the same for me if i was about to do this.

I think renting a "rental" car (unless you are going to shell out bookoo bucks for a real sports car and then spend a day learning its break points and behavior) for the purposes of taking it up to a nortoriously dangerous mountain road to "have some fun" is not the smartest thing to do.

You think a maxima or a rental stock 350z, taken to the dragon and then driven 7-8/10 of its 100% potential has a good chance of hanging in there??? You either dont know the dragon, dont know regular road cars, or your fractional math is askew.

I wont belabor the issue. Chris is a big boy and has thankfully addressed our concerns regarding this plan. That is fine. I just want to go on record saying its a bad idea. Great driver or not....something detrimental is going to happen...the car is going to fail in some way, the driver is going to fail in some way, or a mixture of both.

Chris, I wish you good luck and godspeed on your trip. If I could, I would go and room with you in heartbeat...I would not however, set foot in the car...not up there on the dragon, not with a rental car...I dont care if the driver was named Andretti or Block.
