SRS ESU
Anyone know if its ossible to move the SRS ECU? Im assuming it has a gyro in it... is there anywhere else you can put it other than right under the radio?
Im in the shop with my car guy right now... any help is much appreciated.
btw, did John say he totaled his S2000?!?

Sweet John. Thanks. Glad to hear you are okay. =)
Just sent this to Bandiscoot... maybe someone else can read and offer advice as well:
John over in the Tampa Forums said I you might be abl to help me with a little experiment I'm doing. =)
Im toying with installing a double DIN head unit in the radio console. Obviously its not made for a double DIN, and the rason I think no one has done it before is because of the SRS ECU sitting right in the way.
My question is, is the SRS ECU able to be moved? Obviously you dont want to mess with the wiring, but assuming you keep the same wiring setup and just move it a few inches (like, right by the shifter under the metal plate below the radio door), you should be okay, ya?
Are there any sensors inside the SRS ECU itself that could trigger the airbags? My understanding is that the sensors send data to the ECU, which then deploys the airbags based on that data. However, I want to make totally sure before I start fiddling with stuff. =)
Thanks for your help!!

I took the SRS ECU out and opened it up. The only thing that's worrying me is that little black box in the center. Does anyone know what that is? I'm trying to determine if its a sensor for deploying the airbags... impact, tilt, etc. Any electronics whiz's out there have an idea? =)
