Default Changing oil for the first time...

Alright, so the s2k is at 5k miles so we were planning on changing the oil before the meet on Saturday. Apparantly, we've heard you have to have a special oil filter wrench, is this true? Also, the Honda oil filter that we got has a washer with it, is this for the oil plug? I'm a bit confused. I feel like such a newb...

I promise I tried to do a search and couldn't find anything on this.

Check to make sure that the filter you have is has the same Part no. as the filter that came with the car. A lot of dealers are not recognizing that the S2000 has a different filter from all other Honda cars and SUV's, and giving the wrong filters to S2000 owners. This is assuming you are using an OEM filter.

The crush washer does go between the drain plug and the oil pan. Torque the drain bolt to 29 lb-ft. I don't use the special tool to tighten the filter. I usually tighten the filter to hand tight. This not really specific, but it seems to be working just fine.

I suggest that you purchase a Helms manual for your car if you plan on doing all the maintenance yourself. It has everything you will every need to fix or maintain your S. It is a bit pricey at around $90, but mine has already paid for itself many times over.

It will look something like this

Thanks a bunch for the info. I'll have to check the part # on the filter.

the correct oil filter PN is:
15400-PCX-004.
The correct crush washer PN is:
94109-14000

If your car is older, it may have a PCN filter... this is not the right one to use (anymore).

I agree with the Helm manual as well. Saved me a load of time and energy. I don't remember it costing $90 though.

We changed the oil last night. The oil filters matched up fine. It just kinda sucks that the filter has to be on the side the way it is...dont exactly want to get oil all over the block. All went well though. I took some time and cleaned up the interior too so its all nice and clean minus the outside which is filthy. Maybe the rain will hold off tomorrow long enough to wash it.

I took pics since it was its first oil change...is that sad? lol

I stopped by Honda to order a couple things for the sol and asked about the helms manual and they gave me a 1-800 # to call.

Thnx for the link WSB

Just an FYI - the PCN (old) and PCX (new) filter will fit fine; the PCX is the new standard and is supposedly a much better filter.
