Why not rivet or Riv-nut it together? Or even just use a bolt and nut with a washer that passes through a brass bushing. The bushing would allow the necessary parts to pivot and the nut/bolt/washer would keep em together. Eliminate the need for welding all together.

Riv nut has been suggested, unsure if there is clearance for 1 or a bushing is needed. Need to know the bolt thread pitch too.

If it has to be welded, you need to know if the frame is steel or aluminum. See if a magnet sticks.

Once all insalled again, the spot that is spot-welded is flush w/ a portion of the top system. The weld literally brushes up against a foam portion of the top water ducting system.

My push for the welding is because I know that's a guaranteed solution. Would rather just spend 50-100$ to have someone just show up and get this situation fixed. Not to mention I have another hex nut bolt I stripped :/

Weekend is coming up and I'd like to have the car drivable and it's not going to happen :/

Frustrated w/ the seller of the top and it wasn't cheap either. The miata has a vinyl top, seems cheaper than the one on the S, and on the GT models they have a canvas cloth top. Looks sooo much nicer and wears better. This is what I have and what I purchased too.

LOL - Ok. My goal this weekend is to try and get this out and then I'll focus on the riv-nut / weld issue. This is going to be a B. I got the other side off but had to buy a new hex socket. I'm hoping to use a badass easyout.

Uhhhhh MIG welding is a very common method for welding aluminum. You just have to be using aluminum wire and 100% Argon. If you were to try and take a MIG welder setup for Mild Steel with solid wire and a 80/20 Argon mix, yes you will definitely NOT be happy with the results.

Many ways to weld aluminum, filler rod and shielding gas selection come into play,
