You might want to ask around about it, or maybe get some extra cooling fans.My sister and bro in law bought this big ass entertainment center for their 42" plasma. It's motorized and the tv will drop down and a out of sight.....but it kind of defeats the whole flat screen thing. The entertainment center itself is huge.

Too much heat 
My fireplace is a gas unit that will rarely be used so there won't be heat coming through the wall like with a wood burning unit.
I really like the Samsung units I've seen in person and heard lots of good things about the Panasonics. I am trying to spend around 1200-1500 for the TV itself and allocate the other costs as priority to what I need.
