Tire talk...
So, Ive been piddling around on Tire Rack for the past while, and Ive come up with:
205/55ZR16 Kumho Ecsta SPT Blackwall
for 2000 Honda S2000
In Stock
$70.00 $140.00
Road Hazard Program for 205/55ZR16 Kumho Ecsta SPT
$8.40 $16.80
225/50ZR16 Kumho Ecsta SPT Blackwall
for 2000 Honda S2000
In Stock
$71.00 $142.00
Road Hazard Program for 225/50ZR16 Kumho Ecsta SPT
$8.52 $17.04
Now, I really wanted to rock some 245's in the back, but as I understand it, the stock S02's are 225, however they have an 8" contact patch, like what a 245 tire would have. I was wondering if the Ecsta SPT's are the same way, and if not, how come they don't offer 245's for the rears in 16" wheel sizes? Also, do I have the right profile of tires? Thanks a lot!

Oh wow, after reading reviews, I think Im going to go with the Fuzion ZRi's. They seem to be great tires in the dry and rain, which is what I want, moreso than the SPT's. Not to mention, theyre barely more expensive. Woot.

I've had the Fuzion ZR1's for 20,000 miles. I still have them as my front tires. I replaced the rears with Riken Raptors last week. They are $20 more per tire than the Fuzions, and have a nice water channel for rain. You can't get them from tire rack, but any michelin dealer carries them. (Put Nitrogen in your tires when you change them BTW!)
My bald Fuzion rears stuck better on the dragon than my new Rikens. The Rikens were much more predictable though. In my experience, the Fuzions are not good in the rain, but they have a very stiff sidewall that sticks well.
I just won an ebay auction for 4 factory rims with 4 new SO2's. I'm going to daily drive those (switch them for all season in the winter, and go slow in the rain until then) and put r-compound tires on my spare rims for Dragon runs and maybe some autocross.
If you like the Fuzion reviews, they are good tires, just go slow when it's wet.
Hope this helps, Jamie.

Hmm, I definitely need good wet tires, I think Ill probably go with them though. Ill probably keep em for around 15,000 miles then replace. I dont wanna stretch it. Although I would like to buy a set of Ap2 v.1 rims with all-seasons, and keep the ap1 wheels for dragon runs and autocrossing. I <3 ap2 v.1 rims.

Ive got Fuzions on my car now and they are decent first timer tires but not the best. They have lasted me about 13K mileage wise so for a me a full year. They may have lasted longer if the shop that originaly aligned me knew what the hell they were doing.
Anyway, my pick between the Fuzions and Kuhmos would be for the Fuzions. Make sure to check the 205/50-55/16 and 245/45 or 50/16. The fuzions have the smaller footprint in comparison with the stock S02s. Just depends how large you want your side walls and how much fender gap you want showing. If you have some other questions that we cant help with there is a guy named Jim that posts in the Wheels & Tires Section. He works with Tirerack and could help ya out.
Definitly agree with Jamie though. NO VTEC WHEN ITS WET! Just poke around in S2000 Talk for a couple days .... it will more then convince you to take it easy.

Thanks guys. I just need a tire that will hold up fine for a few Dragon runs, maybe an autocross if Im around for one, and then just good everyday driving tire which can handle the rain as well. Does the Fuzion do that well? I know the SPT could hold its own in that regard.

OK- I called my local Tire Discounters, whom we've given a lot of business, they know us by name, etc etc etc. And Chris was able to match and BEAT the price from Tire Rack for the SPT's. So Im going to go with:
225/50-16 front
245/50-16 rear
Kumho Ecsta SPT, which Im fine with because Ive had them before and know they are a good tire for what I use them for. Im going to be paying 460.00 Mounted, Balanced, road hazard warranty, with an Alignment, and a free oil change. Price from Tire Rack was 360 for the Fuzions + 110.00 mounted and balanced at a shop by my house. All in all, Im happy. Yay for decisions.

Is 45 correct?
205/55/16 and 245/45/16 would be better.
Tire Rack has the Fuzions as well as the Yoko AVS ES100 in those sizes.
matt- 45 would be a better size for the rears. Leave the 50s up front. This is goin to be the sidewall size of your wheels. 45 is going to be the closer of the two (45 / 50) when compared to the stock S02s. You could get the 50s but it will offset your speedo a couple miles per our as its going to set off your tire rotation
As for footprint the 205 and 245 will be fine. You could do 215 in the front but it might look a bit buldged on the stock 6.5 rim. Dont do 225 though.
If I were you id get this................205/50/16 245/45/16. Its what I would have gotten if I didnt have the 205/45/16 in the front. makes them look tiny and the fender gap is huge. Dont get 225 on the front though.
Regardless you cant go off of the stock tire numbers. The S02s have a square contact patch which increase its footprint. Hence why the stocks are 225 and others are 245. A great example of this will be in the Wheels and Tires Forum. At the top there is a stick on correct tire sizees. Go to the next to last page. There is a picture that shows this perfectly.
