We've been talking about it here: http://forums.s2kca.com/showthread.php?t=29000 A bunch of guys from Houston are driving to Shiner to do the 1:30 tour tomorrow; the Austin folks will meeting them down there. We'll be posting a leave time/location in the next few hours, so if you want to come along, post here!

Most of the ATX crew bailed today. Looks like I'm flying solo. I'm scouting roads in the area along the way so maybe we can do this again soon.

The Shiner trip is a pretty easy drive from Austin. Despite Google's claim the trip takes 2hr 45m it only took 1hr 40m including a stop in Elgin for drive through BBQ sausage wraps. I was driving at or near the posted limits in no particular hurry. When I realized I'd arrive an hour and a half early for the tour I ventured off the highway to investigate some twisty roads that appeared on my GPS. Unfortunately some of these roads went from asphalt to dirt when crossing county lines. Well you could say the drive contained some rally stages. The Houston folks arrived just in time for the 1:30 brewery tour. The tour was fun and included plenty of beverages to sample. The store has lots of Shiner swag, pint glasses and of course more beer. Lunch at a local Werner's steakhouse is what you would expect in a little town like Shiner. Really slow service and the food wasn't fantastic according to some of the group. My steak and baked potato was perfect so I had no complaints. It was a little odd that the exotic game trophies on the wall also contained a huge steer. Sort of weird having your dinner watching you.

Yeah, that Werner's is not the best place... I did some work for First National Bank of Shiner once and had to spend a week out there... I only went there once.

I'd love to take the tour sometime. Shiner Bock is my favorite beer.
