i think in this situation a lawyer would be the best choice. I think anything over about 15-20mph over the limit is "negligence" in many states, and loss of license, $1000+ fines..etc.. etc....

If they get any details on the ticket wrong (car make/model, license plate, names, etc), that's grounds for immediate dismissal. It shows the cop was not thorough and accurate enough, let alone give you a ticket. I hope he didn't ask you if you were speeding and you admitted it, because that's just admitting to guilt right there. Whenever you get pulled over, never admit anything, even if you were indeed going well over.
At this point, I'd go to the court and ask for "discovery," which is all the documented evidence that the cop took down, even the radar slip. From there you can see how he pulled you over, and if anything was wrong, you can dispute that in court.
I'd ask the court for a few "continuances," which are court date postponements, but make up an excuse why you can't make it that day. The more continuances you make, the more likely the cop will forget and not show up. But yes, show up to court, cuz you have nothing to lose at that point. Either you're found guilty and pay your fine (which you'll do anyways if you don't use the court), or you win when the cop doesn't show up.
If you want to be really safe, get a lawyer and he'll most likely be able to get it dismissed, if not, get the penalty knocked down to reasonable.
Just feel lucky he didn't take you directly to the slammer.
