Default Oil weight in Houston.

Hey guys, just wanted to know what type of oil weight my fellow Houstonian's are working with. On my Mazdaspeed3 I ran Royal Purple 20w-50 and she absolutely loved it, especially in the summer months. I obviously wouldn't be running that heavy of an oil in my stock s2000, but I was wondering if any of you guys deviated from the standard 10w-30? Maybe use like a 10w-40?

Also what is everyone's thoughts on Royal purple? It seems to get a bad rap on these boards, but It has worked well for me in previous cars and I like supporting a local Houston company. Never been a big Mobile 1 fan and Amsoil can be hard to get your hands on...

Running 10w30 is fine for where we are at, its not like it gets below freezing.

There is really no reason to run higher weight. I'm turbo'd and still using 10-30. Royal Purple from what I've read on here, Gets cooked in our engines. (especially turbo) GReddy will not warranty a turbo if Royal Purple was used.

I don't place much stock in anecdotal evidence but the highly regarded oil experts rarely speak well of it. There are tons of oil threads that you can refer to if you really want as well as BITOG. UOA's are they way to go if you really want to see how well your oil is doing its job.

Amsoil's not that difficult unless you're set on walking into a B&M and picking it up. I order via the Amsoil site with my preferred discount and receive it next day. Less of a hassle than dealing with B&M stores IMO.

Thanks guys! I ended up buying a Amsoil preferred customer membership. Should hopefully pay for itself. Picked up 6 quarts of their full synthetic, a wix filter, 2 quarts of the MTF, and 1 quart of their differential fluid for $108 shipped. Not too shabby.
