I really want to know if all this guy did was run the red light, or was there something else that he had done previously? Was he a known felon or had prior charges?
Does it really matter? Once he started trying to evade police, any of his previous crimes became irrelevant. All that matters at that point is that he was in the process of committing a crime (evading police is a crime), and that's the crime that the cops were trying to stop at that point. And it looks like they did a pretty good job of stopping that crime in progress.

Marcus, I wasn't asking in my support for the guy in any way. You are absolutely correct, what he did is wrong. I personally would never even think about doing something like that.

It just seems harsh to me to risk paralyzing someone for something like that. I'm not debating that he didn't break the law in any way. It just wow, there's gotta be some other way to stop a bike, seems like we come up with a solution for everything.

And thats just my opinion, I wouldn't ever be in a situation like that, so it doesn't effect me, but for the girl that was with him this really sucks. [Even though she was probably stupid to be with a guy like that.]

I don't know, I guess maybe watching it just rattles me, thats all.

Yellow is always speeding!

I'm sure it gets more attention from cops to begin with.

I heard there is a law about not to chase bikes as the most they can hurt is themselves? Isn't that true? I don't know.

To me the biker was wrong and the cop did the worst thing to stop him. The guy might have slowed down once the cops would have stopped chasing him? It's just messed up man.

[QUOTE=mxt_77,May 22 2008, 09:07 AM]Just as my own personal opinion... I would totally support a law that allows cops to "shoot to kill" any time a person makes a serious effort to evade arrest.

Saying people should be shot for evading the police is just absurd. Tons of people run from the police everyday, either due to a medical condition or emergency, fear, being drunk, high, or maybe the fact that the majority of people are idiots, you can't (/shouldn't) shoot everyone of them.
But wouldn't that effectively be Darwinism at work? We'd be getting rid of all the drunk-asses, druggies, and idiots... thereby improving the breed.

I know it wouldn't be reasonable to shoot every imbecile that takes flight before thinking of the consequences, but if there's a risk that they'll actually put someone in harm's way or cause considerable property damage, then I say take 'em out. And do it as efficiently as possible.

ehh i'm pretty sure the car from behind radio'd in saying there was another passenger on the bike... kind of hard to miss someone sitting on the back of a bike. I just think that the officer panicked and made a stupid decision. Honestly they are lucky for being alive after something like that. If a car was running from an officer at that speed, I dont think another officer would try to hit him from the front to stop him...It's just taking advantage of someone on a vehicle that weighs 700 lbs with not really any safety equipment...
my .02 cents
