Default Auto X street tires

I've experimented with a couple different street tire setups on both 16" and 17" wheels and I found the best results on the OEM S02 so far. New condition S02's have yielded my best lap times followed by slower times on the same type of tire with considerable wear. I estimate the worn variety cost me about 4 sec. over an 80 second course. Yokohama A-520 and BFG G-Force KD yielded some dissapointing results on my 17" wheels. The S02's are noticeably faster given my suspension setup and driving style. Although the non OEM tires had more grip they didn't work very well at Mineral Wells.
I'm contemplating the purchase of either the S02 or the Kuhmo MX as my next Auto-X street tires. Anyone had any experience with the new MX? The price is right and the section / tread width is close to stock (despite the 225 size) although the fronts are a little wider than OEM. Tire Rack tests place them close to the BFG KD. Customer ratings place the S02 slightly ahead of the MX just behind the KD although no actual driving comparison was tested. Any thoughts for the stock wheel setup?

This is not my experience and nor is it S2000 based. However, Brad has experience with a bunch of different tires on his M3. He currently has the MX's and will more than likely be out with them in MW next weekend. So far he says they offer excellent grip, are a little loud, and wear like crazy. So, sounds similiar to the S02 for a little cheaper.

It's just too bad you can't get the Yoko Avi's anymore. They rock at Mineral Wells. I have a new set in my garage for the right price!

I wish I new you had a set of AVSi's. I just corded all 4 of my tires. I found 2 old S-02s for the front (unknown origin), and bought 2 new Kumho 712 for the rear.

I don't know if they are available in the right sizes, but the Azenis are supposed to be awesome street / autocross tires. Although I still believe that the cheapest autocross setup is OEM wheels with Kumho Victoracers...

Not if you've only got one set of wheels and also have to use the Victoracers for daily driving...

I agree with gernby about the Falken Azenis Sports, though - they are the closest thing to an R compound DOT legal street tire that's out there (the Yokohama Advan Neovas are probably a little closer, but aren't available in DOT approved sizes that would work on an S2000).

The Azenis Sports are available in 225/45/17 ($106 each at Vulcan Tire) & 245/45/17 ($113 each at Vulcan Tire) sizes - would those work on your OZs? I've driven Miatas back-to-back with Azenis & Kumho MXs, and the MXs can't hold a candle to the Azenis.

I was really looking for a good street tire for Auto-X that would fit my stock rims. However I found a much better solution. I now use my O.Z. wheels for street and fun runs through the Hill Country twisties. I was lucky enough to find slightly narrower 245/40/17 rears (A-520) to replace my badly worn 255's. The fronts will last until another set of rears are worn away.

You'll have to attend the MW Auto-X to see my new track / Auto-X solution. Let's just say it doesn't involve my O.Z.'s or OEM wheels anymore...

Have you checked the Tire and Wheel forum, or tried using search?
