Default E85 conversion

Has anyone thought about converting there s2k to E85. I've heard that you gain hp and tq. One user claims 13 hp and 19 tq. I'm kinda skeptical about it but if its true then that could be the best gains for your money.

E85 has less energy per volume than gasoline, but higher effective octane than gas so you can run higher compression. The net effect, from what I understand, is a slight increase in power assuming you bump up the compression, along with a slight decrease in mpg. (And a loss of power if you keep the same compression and ignition timing.) To do the conversion? Hmm, the alcohol in E85 will dissolve any rubber bits it comes in contact with, and supposedly there are a lot of those in the fuel system. You'd have to do a lot of research if you really want to go that route, like whether you'll need to replace the injectors, the fuel rail, the fuel lines, all the fittings, and even the fuel tank.

But why bother? There's conflicting information, but some reports basically state that the amount of energy required to produce a gallon of ethanol (fertilizer, harvesting, processing, distributing, etc.) basically add up to a gallon of gasoline, so you're not actually accomplishing anything.

Your best bet is to run a small nuke plant in your garage, drive a Tesla, and sell the excess back to the grid.

(Along those lines, I've heard somebody is working on producing a "nuclear battery" that's a sealed unit, procuding x-amount of power over a y-year lifetime. It's intent is to help out third-world countries without giving them any nuclear material processing technology.)

E85 conversion is usually only beneficial for people running a lot of boost without the use of a methanol injection system. I think it's effectively 110 octane or so. You do need to change some fuel lines and I think maybe also fuel pump. Some of the 500+ whp turbo guys have some good knowledge on it. I wouldn't recommend it as a means to just get a slight power bump on an otherwise stock or bolt on n/a car.

Contact charlie... chls2k on the local boards. He was running E85 on his turbo setup and I think he switched back to gas.

Need higher octane? Run a "small" amount of Avgas, aviation fuel.
