You're not required to report a fender bender to police. By Texas law, you're only required to exchange certain info (which includes, but may not be limited to: Name, Address, car info, insurance info). So, the police aren't going to be upset with you or arrest you. He didn't "leave the scene of an accident". He exchanged info w/ the other person, as required by law.

However, I'm not sure that the police would be particularly helpful at this point. Calling the insurance agent is likely the right thing to do.

The police are always "your friends" unless you've broken the law. Granted, they're not always useful or helpful friends, but they're still technically on your side if you're in the right.

Exactly, he didn't do anything wrong and the police won't be able to do anything to him. They may or may not be able to help, but IMHO it would be worth calling to find out. I think just by calling the police, if you can get a police report on it, it shows that you are the one being pro-active in this accident and will be harder for the other driver to act like it was your fault.

If at all possible, don't move the vehicles until the police have arrived.
I think it may be illegal to keep your vehicle in the road if it is able to move. This is more of a judgment call though... if you're going to cause a traffic build up then the cops will probably care that you didn't move the car, but otherwise they most likely wouldn't say anything about it. Definitely try to get pictures before the vehicles are moved if it's safe to do so though.

I agree, some of the stupidest mistakes I ever made were not calling the police. However, having been in a a slightly similar situation, I know that you can go to DPS in Carrolton and pay $3.50 and get the name address and registration of any car with a license plate. I hope that helps.
