Lute Riley Makes Dateline: Surprise Surprise

Our favorite dealer to hate made Dateline. Basic jest of the show was don't shop for a car by monthly payment, get preapproved with a bank and read the paper work the finance manger makes you sign.
Dateline sent a girl to Sonic's lead Ford dealership in Charlotte NC where Burton Smith has an office. Original payment is $320, she can only afford $250 so the sales manager works lowers her payment to $250 by increasing the term to 72 months. Then the finance manager gave her thee

It is sad though.... I am guessing Lute went through a new owner or something since i purchased my Prelude there in 99.... we had done a lot of shopping around and had our "best price" which was $500 or so below invoice... we told the sales man at Lute he had 1 hour to complete all paper work and beat that price. we had no problems what so ever. No options added on the car. None of that BS.
David McDavid has been treating our family right for years in there service deptartment (including not BSing my mom when her car wouldn't start here at home only to have the wrecker driver forget it wouldn't start and drove it into their service bay... they called us and told us the car was running fine... no charge (they could have raped us and we would have never known))....
Anyway...

Lute Riley is part of one of those mega conglomerates and that is the way all their stores operate.
Nowadays even shopping brands may have you shopping with the same parent company.
By controlling the competition they controll the pricing. In the old days that was called a monopoly and there were very stiff sentences for that kind of behavior, but that was changed several years ago.
If you think that is bad you ought to see some of the changes that have been allowed in the mortgage industry and some more planned. It is next to impossible to buy from a Builder and not get screwed when you must use their title company, their mortgage company and many times their insurance company. For decades that type of arrangement has been illegal but the building industry has a very large lobby. The HAB even has classes that teach the builders how to close with an extra $10,000 in their pocket.
