Silly cops
I got pulled over this morning. I was doing around 70 in a 45 when I passed a cop that was turning out of a parking lot. As soon as I passed him, he immediately peeled out, hit his lights, and turned on his radar. I didn't hit my brakes, since he was behind me, but I did let off the gas, and pull the parking brake a bit. I wound up slowing down to about 62 by the time he had a good lock on me. Anyways, he pulled me over, and asked why I was going so fast, and I told him that I was just "trying to keep the rain out of my face" (top was down). He also asked why I didn't have a front license plate, and I told him that "it's just ugly ...". Long story, short is that he gave me a verbal warning about the excessive speed, but a ticket for no front license plate.
This is the 2nd time I've been pulled over for speeding (the last one was for 60 in a 40), since I got my S2000, and I've just been given verbal warnings for both of them.

Guess your luck ran out. You know, I've been keeping an informal tally of cars w/o front license plates. And I guess at least 20 percent or more don't have front plates (including mine). In other group rides I've noticed cops give tickets for license plates only when they've stopped one of us for another offense. It's time we all write our legislators and get the ridiculous front plates off our vehicles, as many other states do. It's not only ugly but additional expense and waste of resources. Maybe we can get AAA to lobby for us, too.
Hmmm. I don't think my luck has run out at all. I think that I might have gotten a speeding ticket if he hadn't had something else to write. I feel VERY fortunate. I've gone 7 years without a moving violation.
I'll be darn, you're right. By the way, I just took my own advice and sent e-mails to my state rep and senator. requesting they eliminate the vehicle code requirement for front plates.
If anyone else wants to do so, just do a google search for Texas State Legislators. Maybe we can start something. I'll post on the Z3 site to see if they're interested- they've got a lot more members.

I wish I had your luck, gernby - I had my car for less than a month when I got my first ticket (68 in a 55). I didn't have to worry about not having a front plate - I still had my temporary tags on.
I have only gotten 1 warning in my life, the rest all tickets (although only a few, knock on wood).
Stay safe.

I am even more surprised today that I got away with just a warning. It seems that this area is in "Revenue Generation Mode". One of the guys I work with got a speeding ticket on his way home last night, and I've seen 3 others pulled over yesterday and this morning in the 8 miles that I drive to / from work.
