Default 2.0 vs 2.2 ?

Would just like to start s discussion on the 2 engines available for the S2000.

I always knew America had the 2.2 engine on later S2000 models, but only recently found out Japan went for it too.
How is the 2.2 different? I understand it to be just a longer stroke, but other bits must have been changed to support this? I assume the rev limit is lower? Guess its torqier but maybe less revvy. Does it still make 250 PS for Japan?

I normally think Japan gets it right (some of their great cars we dont get). So they must think it was better.

Were they right? Which is better? Should the UK have got the 2.2?

Cheers

There's a thread about every 10 days on the US side (where they have the choice, unlike us). They are commonly known as AP1 vs AP2.

Here's an example, including the video that appears in every single one of these threads as well: https://www.s2ki.com/s2000/topic/937...#entry21521379

BestMotoring (and all other titles in the series such as Hot Version etc) are no longer produced.

Your best bet to obtain them on DVD/VCD/VHS would be eBay.

Chris.

That's not the 2.2 AP2 car. The 2004 car in that vid has the 9k redline so it's still the 2.0. That vid purely shows the advantage of the chassis changes.

Yea best motoring / hot version / vtec club etc, all best motoring DVD titles.

Also look for battles at 10000 rpm!!!

Have a few 2nd hand from eBay but also lots new from eBay, and amazon. The common titles are normally less than a tenner new, the more rare ones are expensive. Managed to get a quite a few and some bargain rare ones on eBay.

Also love the touge battles!

This is correct, the japs didnt give themselves the 2.2 til 2006 and the yanks had it at 2004
the japanese 2.0 is still the most powerful and is only just shy from the 2.2 torque
