Default 2000 reg - ICE

Guys and gals,

Having finally sorted all the other niggles with my S since i bought her 4 months ago and being mightly pleased with how she now sounds in vtec i have moved my attention to the ICE seeing as winter is setting in.....on problem being, i have the original Honda cassette deck and no cd changer!!!

I don't want to lose the dash mounted controls but i do want cd/ipod action. Can i fit a cd changer and if so where is cheapest to get one? OR can anyone recommend a decent head unit to replace the original with that will keep the dash controls.

I have searched the old topics and not found anyone in the same predicament as me so any help would be

Thanks

CT

1) CD Changers definitely work in an S2000 - i've just removed one from mine. You're welcome to have it - i'm not after more than £20. It's Sony and holds 10cds.
2) For a new head unit it depends the features that you want for it. Think about
a) whether you want USB connectively
b) if you wish to power an ipod
c) number of pre-outs for amps/subs (if desired)
3) For stalk controls you'll want a pc99-x61 lead as explained here:
http://productfinder.autoleads.co.uk/produ...d=594&pID=32482
Sold here:
http://www.google.co.uk/products?hl=en&q=P...F-8&sa=N&tab=wf

You'll also need a patch lead (this goes into a PC99-x61) and the one you want depends on your brand of head unit. I've just bought a patch lead called PC99-JVC for my JVC head unit.

Are you considering replacing door speakers? I bought a set of £30 speakers, £10 on brackets and £3 on wire adapters. The fit literally took about 5 mins once the door was off as everything is made for the job.

It's certainly worth thinking about replacing the door cards with those from a later model year, to allow for component speakers, which'll give you much better sound quality.

A new head unit is also a great idea.

What sort of budget do you have in mind?

I've got an adaptor for sale if your interested, that'll solve the problem for keeping the dash controls -

Might part with the Headunit too, its a JVC AVX2. Pm me if interested, can probably let it go for £160 posted with the remote and dash control

@lovegroova, it looks like i could be sorting out the stereo now. I really don't know how much to be looking to pay on door speakers...have come from the relatively cheap world of mrk 1 MX5 you see!

Fwiw, the poor sound quality is mostly down to the stock headunit, once I put the jvc in I managed to live with the stock speakers even with them being pre-facelift ones with no separate tweeter!

I can't recommend a new set of coax speakers enough, compared to no changes at all. Obviously in an ideal world we'd all spend £500 on components, but £30 on coax speakers made a HUGE difference to mine.

Easy too

you can run any headunit you want (within reason) and still keep the dash controls. Just this week i bought abrand new sony cd player with bluetooth and this dash interface lead and the dash controls work fine. definatly recommended.

Considering those & a pair of Autoleads adaptors are so easy to instal.

I've ditched my CD Autochanger, for the simple reason they get very jumpy with age, especially with the 2001 rear spring rates. The NSX's is a bit tempramental, but that's the extreme heat, as well as the spring rates. I've kept the one in the 'Lude. Partly because the dog likes Robin Trower...

I think these days, putting one's collection on a USB stick is probably the way I'd do it. The data compression's probably not noticeable in such a noisy car.

But I've gone all DAB & tend to listen to Planet Rock instead.
