Actually, my ex-wife was like driving a skoda. Ugly as feck, but quite capable really.

- And you never wanted to be seen with it.
- When you started off you couldn't wait for the journey to finish.
- But still, in secret, a comfortable ride.

I'm sorry... It's late. I need some sleep...
Later.

You say that but I'd never had a car like the S before and never had any issues with previous vehicles. It didn't even really enter my head when I first had the car and I made the same mistake as Planeman until it clicked.

So don't worry Planeman you are not alone and I bet a lot of others have done it too

I know you just want to ram it into VTEC the first chance you get, but there's a good reason that foreplay was invented.
It's gets every thing warmed up first.
Who are you? 'swiss tony'

Well you have been helped out and possibly saved from a very embarassing trip to the dealer, and expensive engine wear problems. So be grateful

With all due respect (and no I'm not trying to take the piss) do you really think it's quite alright to rag the nuts off a cold engine?

Regardless of what the car or the engine is, I have *never* ragged the car until it has warmed up! And that's not necessarily because I'm a petrolhead, but from things my dad told me, things I learned when I was learning to drive, even oil adverts like GTX Magatec or whatever it was - there's LOADS of information around that says ragging a car when cold is a seriously bad idea!

I was talking about this ad to my mate, does anyone else remember it? Some bloke in a Toyota Corolla driving it from cold and it was shouting "OW!" Ha ha ha! I used to love that ad.

Planeman, fair play to asking for help, and maybe you have gleaned a useful piece of advice. It could be a 1-litre Polo or an 8-litre Viper, but you shouldn't ever thrash any engine from cold. Give it 10-15 minutes of good steady driving before you go for VTEC for the first time!
