Advice Needed..
Sold my last car to a guy in Ireland.
Had to pick him up from the airport. Then he had to drive it to Scotland to the ferry port! He said loads of people from Ireland come over to the UK to get cars.
I would try and get cash from him if possible, but you have to look at it from his point of view, 15k is a lot of money to travel round with and he is safer with a bankers draft.
I took a bankers draft from him, had my bank check to make sure it was real. All turned out good.
Best bet would be to get him to draw the money out from a UK bank, this way he doesn

Like what has been said a bankers draft is not really any different from a cheque, it only means the funds was in there account at the time it was made.
I took a bankers draft from him, had my bank check to make sure it was real. All turned out good, but there was always the risk he had spent the money and the draft wouldn

I think that because of the changes in the VRT(tax) coming in July there will be a lot of Irish people importing cars that will become very expensive in the new system the S is one of them. So as I stated before don't get parnoid treat an Irish buyer the same as any other buyer.
BTW. Zaga what part of Cork are you?

Here's another one for you. Seeing as carrying cash around is not very good for the buyer, or the seller for that matter, ask the buyer if he has any family or friends in your area. If so maybe this could be of benefit to you both.
I bought my car from a seller in London. I have a sister living there so I transferred the money from my account in Ireland to her UK account before I went over. Then on the day of sale I went with the seller to my sister's bank and we got her brach to transfer the funds directly into his bank account, he got confirmation from the brach manager there and then that the funds were in his account. He handed over the keys, wrote me out a receipt, I drove the car home, happy days!
There is a specific term / name used for this type of Interbranch/Interbank direct transfer, can't remember what it is but it does work. Just remember to do it BEFORE lunch on a Friday unlike what I did and got caught out, but still I got an extra few days break in London.
Fairly specialised set of circumstances I realise, but it might be of help to someone?!
