Default AEM V2 Cold Air Intake System

The urge to spend cash on the car is getting worse.. not allowed the supercharger... new house + marrage +baby soon..

So looking at this airfilter.

questions:

1) does it really give 10bhp extra.
2) sound? any clips to compare or just your views
3) As we live in the UK and i do a lot of m4 miles, can the water (rain) get up the pipe
into the engine and make it go bang.?

Cheers....

1) no
2) nice sound i dont have a clip
3) Never heard of this, only heard of one hydrolock case on here, but don't know if that was ever attributed to any CAI (and dont even know if the car had one fitted)

I have one of these and it is awesome. The sound is brilliant, much better than the top off the airbox. The only risk of getting water in the engine is from driving through very deep water, i.e three feet which I hope you wouldn't do anyway. As for the power I would say 10BHP is , there is an article http://www.vtec.net/articles/view-article?...2&page_number=3 where they get it on a rolling road and prove 8 BHP (I think?), but I cant say I noticed any feel of power increase. Throttle response is slightly improved and you get less heat soak resulting in less kangarooing in traffic. Bear in mind this system is a pig to fit, it will take you 3-4 hours and will require taking off undertrays, the front wheel and drilling massive holes in your undertray to get the pipe to feed into the bumper. But all worth it IMO for that wonderful noise.

I fitted an old style AEM to my ITR yesterday and the difference is huge.
Very loud in VTEC, not too loud below 4000 rpm. Much more power everywhere.

I think it depends how efficeint the air flow is beforehand whether you get a noticeable increase in response.

AEM recommend to remove this system if there is any chance of hydrolock ie. driving through standing water.

Admittedly hydrolock sounds very scary but many many people are running these systems, like the Injen used around here.

How many instances of hydrolock have we heard of ?
