AEM V2 Problems

I wasn't having a go at anybody.
It just annoys me when ill-informed people claim that the AEM is dangerous and how everybody should get a K&N.

If it helps, my buying decision was a simple one; the K&N was £60 delivered from Ebay, and I've never seen an AEM at anything like that money

Filter gets wet, doesn't let air through at same rate, car runs like crap and may not run at all. Figure out how to keep your filter dry. It may not be down to the AEM design, it may be something particular to your car.
From what you have said this is the problem. 100%. As I said before the same thing used to happen on one of my bikes and I have seen it on other cars. If you have a sock over the filter it may in fact encourage excess water build up in the filter. This will seem like an intermittent problem.
One thing you can try is giving the filter a good clean, dirt will hold onto more water.
Anything else is bollocks, regardless of what JD thinks he knows.

I don't think this is the right place to turn this into a slanging match.
I'm guessing here but JD is talking about hydrolock as in bending rods and your talking about hydrolock as in having a wet air filter.
Crossed wires maybe.

Although I agree with JD's definition it is the same problem either way just to a different extent. Air compresses water doesn't. The latter introduced in significant amounts to a cylinder will cause problems...
Yes I am talking about Hydrolocking, gt750boy needs to read before he posts, and might want to know Ive been on here long enough to know whats bollox and whats not, plus Ive been running the same style air intake for over a year!!!
Sorry If I sound pissed, but Im sick of peoples false statements on filters they dont even own like LTB says.

Hyrdolock can happen, I've seen it and helped my mate with his car when he did it with a similar style intake.
I can't be arsed repeating what i said on a previous thread several months ago, but with sparkplugs out etc it burst holes in the fire mat under the bonnet.
However, i will say the filter got submerged in a rather large deep puddle for a very short period of time - I gaurantee in this scenario an AEM will cause hydrolock.
Hydrolock is not bullshit.

Yes, you are the font of all knowledge and can make air pass through a water saturated filter. Physics be damned. I've apparenly learned nothing from building hot rods and bikes for thirty years.
Feel better?
The Internet is a wonderful thing... Turns everyone into an expert but no one else knows anything.

Missing the point. If the air filter is soaked with water it will not allow water to pass through. This becomes a bigger problem with any aftermarket filter that has more surface area, be it foam, fabric, or paper. This normally exhibits as sluggish performance but can, and does quite frequently, stop the engine from working at all.
It doesn't matter if it is AEM, Spoon, K&N, or Joe Bloggs Bloody Filters.
Stop the water getting on the filter and problem goes away.
But what do I know? I've now stopped caring about this.
