Default Alpine CDA-9884R

I'm about to order an Alpine CDA-9884R head unit and want to get some door speakers that will work with it.

Spent hours searching the forums and my head's filled with "Infinity's are too bright", "you'll need a separate amplifier", Boston ... JBL ..... Genesis ..... Focal ...... etc.

think my head's going to explode

All I want to know is which mid/bass unit will work well with a 4 x 50W Alpine head unit with no amplifier and no subwoofer (keeping stock tweeters) in an 04 MY for sensible money

Thankyou in advance.

Phil

Any good set of components will be fine even Alpines. It's personal choice more than anything else and unless you're a true audiophile, it'll be difficult to tell the difference. Genesis profile speakers come highly recommended and are well priced. I have Boston Acoustics and can't fault them either.

Are you going to get an amp in the future? It does make a lot of difference especially at higher volumes with the roof down. I used an Alpine 9857R with a 60Wx4 internal amp and was amazed at the difference when the amp was installed.

Hadn't really thought about doing this due to extra wiring required but who knows, I may consider it at some stage. Guess it depends if I'm happy with what I've got after the upgrade

I have Boston Acoustics
Which model are they?

The extra wiring can be done in a day or two. It took around three days in total to route all the wires through to the spare wheel compartment, make an amp rack, install an underseat sub and HU. If you mount the amp behind a seat it's even easier. I upgraded the speaker wire to 4 conductor cable too which is a PITA to get through the door grommets but once you see the OEM wires you'll understand why...

Most Alpine units recommend running a cable direct from the battery so you'll have to route cabling through from the engine bay anyway. I ran some 4 gauge to the boot initially but replaced this with 8 gauge later for the Genesis amp.

The Boston Acoustics speakers are RC620 components which are no longer available (I sourced them from MikeyK on here). They really are excellent especially at the price I paid. I believe Moff has the Genesis speakers which, from several reports, complement the Profile 2 amp nicely.

I'll almost guarantee you won't be happy with the output from the HU so i'd build it in stages like I did and wire through some cable from the engine bay whilst you're fitting the HU...
