Default alpine ida305s problem

my ipod nano isnt connecting correctly to my alpine head unit.the black usb cable coming out the back of the alpine has a usb connector that is working perfectly playing music when a usb card is inserted.

however when i plug my white ipod usb cable into the usb end of the black alpine cable i get the usb error message, its strangely enough charges the ipod though.

iv reset the ipod and the head unit with no success.

i have seen that when the headunit is purchased new it comes with a short extention cable for an ipod but i dont have this cable.

but surely they couldnt be any difference in an alpine usb cable and ipod one?

Err! of course there could. I would have been surprised if it worked with your iPod cable.

Have you tried RTFM?

Mines a 311 but I am guessing they may be similar, anyway, I have 2 cables, one specifically for the ipod and one for a USB flash drive. Assuming the HU are similarly wired have you installed the ipod cable?
