AP1 or AP2?
Hello folks
Having come off the lexus forums after owning a beautiful Lexus Is200 Sport, I now join the S2k forums with no car!
Im deciding what to buy. Evo, Skyline, Rx7, M3, 6 series or..... s2k! My heart is set on the s2k though so im 99% sure I want one.
I need to know something though- I been looking at 2004 models onwards as I read that these are AP2 and somewhat better in terms of looks and handling. However, a s2k owner told me the other day that there is no difference in european versions and this only applies to U.S models.
Can someone clarify what the difference is pre 2004 and post 2004 so I know what to look for?
Thanks

Tommy, your right. I was thinking of doing that but if i can bag a AP2 at a reasonable price then it gives me a slight advantage of not having to mod everything. I only planned on doing slight changes like new rims, induction kit....
But if there are no engine/driving differences and strictly just a visual change between AP1>AP2 then maybe I am better of with a pre 2004 model?? Im so lost in what I want to buy now

The changes you want would be aftermarket anyway buddy!
Stock rims are weak whatever you go for being facelift 17's.
Suspension, brakes, wheels and exhaust is the main things you should change.
Get an AP1!

AP2 is the 2.2 litre engine, no such thing in the UK.
There are other differencec though, the facelift AP1 engine doesn't really use oil, the facelift has anti-bumpsteer revisions, new chassis welding giving a stiffer body, set up to be a bit more understeery/safe and then revised and tweaked in various years since.

The facelift interior is much better in my personal opinion and I much prefer the LED light clusters.
Other than the suspension revisions they will all "drive" the same so it's no biggy. There is a discernible difference with a facelift car though.

Dont forget tax, its better to go sub 06 if your going for an 04 onwards.
For me the early cars are now showing their age (and I have one) its amazing the difference the rear bumper revision and larger exhaust makes IMO, other than that interior wise its just the centre console which can be had on ebay for £200, slightly different tweeters, and a revised display, nothing major.
For me, to get my perfect s2 I would have the later wheels and oval exhaust (already have these) the later rear bumper, and possibly front bumper, the later centre console, but I would retain everything else, including the early front and rear lights.

There are no UK Ap2, all cars are Ap1 but have the Ap2 styling/interior changes in the later models.

AP1/AP2 - chassis, AP2 debuted worldwide in 2004
F20C/F22C - engine, F22C debuted in NA in 04, Japan in 05, and Europe... later?
But Honda never officially released the AP2 chassis as an AP2 in Europe, correct? They are all listed as AP1 to avoid regulation testing even though they are revised?
Thanks for the info.
