Default Arch Rust...

Ok so it seems i have a slight bit of rust on the rear arches towards the front of the car. I have been quoted £510 to repair and paint this, is that reasonable? I think the quote they gave me includes spraying both the rear wings entirely...surely thats not needed, i only need the areas rubbing back and painted surely?

My worry is, having a grey moonrock will make paint matching a nightmare right?

You would nearly be as well spraying the whole sides.

What of the car?

Damn rust. Its only on the lower part of the arches, can i not just have that treated then painted over...its low down so i dont think i'd mind so much any paint issues down there.

Yea you could but getting the colour to match would be difficult, it's not an easy colour to match

I think moonrock isn't too bad to match

my mate has one and he's bought bits that were pre painted like the bmw chop wing and side strakes and had a panel resprayed off the car and there's no difference whatsoever, not like you get with silverstone

If the rust is showing, then it will be worse underneath - so just rubbing back and spraying won't keep it at bay for long.

Have you got a pic?

Ok so got those stupid rubber lip things off, unbelievable amount of crap fell down!

The passenger side isnt as bad, i think for this side i might be able to get away with some waxoyl then hammerite?

The driver side, looking from the paintwork perspective isnt that bad. But it has started... but under that rubber thing is a different story..

^ Could i not just rub down all the parts that are blistered, treat, protect, then paint and blend (as best i can) that bit in? It won't be perfect, but won't be a whole wing!!?

So personally, i don't feel its worth having a whole arch painted on the passenger side, its not that bad? But what about the driver side?

The thing with paying someone to do it, is they won't want you coming back in 11 months time complaining the rust is back - that's why they'll quote for more than just rubbing back and blowing over.

It's coming from the inside so rubbing it back isn't going to fix anything permanently.
