A few months ago I had my local dealer fit the accessory window closer - all seems to work OK with the alarm (although it does seem to take ages after setting the alarm for the windows to roll up). Recently the autocloser when operated from the driver's door switch doesn't work, then seems to clear itself and then work. Very erratic... anyone got any suggestions?

Can I assume that the "Auto Window Close" is an addition to the Cat1 alarm system.
If so, when you arm the alarm it will take a few seconds (about 15) as the system goes through the car and immobilises all that is required and if the windows are down it will then close them.

On the switch for the windows, is the master switch in the right position, if not it will not close or open the window. This is the long button that says ON OFF.

I just thought I would mention the on/off button, because I had the same problem on my first 00. I couldn't close my window. I went back to the dealer and they just turned the switch to on. I felt a right big PRAT
