Default Binding front brake caliper?

From the rolling resistance and build up of heat and brake dust on my front drivers-side wheel, it appears that I have a sticking/binding brake caliper - is this the only likely cause of these symptoms????

Anyway, assuming it is the brake caliper, I seem to remember these being somewhat pricy items from Honda.

Does anyone who has upgraded their brakes still have the originals collecting dust and would be willing to sell one (or 2) of them?

Otherwise, is anyone aware of any S2000's being broken at the moment?

Thanks in advance for the help.

Have you even attempted to free off the existing one?

A new set of pads too, will push the piston back to a less 'bindy' spot, hopefully.

What can I do to 'free off' the sticky caliper?

I think simply replacing the pads may have that effect Ian

If the front pads are getting low I'd be inclined to change the pads as a cheap first step

What Nick means I think, is that the piston is sticking at the extent it's at now, so by putting in new pads, it will be pushed back to a point where, hopefully it won't stick.

Biker1 has some calipers in the FS section - 60 quid each IIRC.

Looks like someone may be interested though - perhaps you can buy an old one off the buyer ?

I seem to remember you can get a rebuild kit for the calipers that is significantly cheaper than a new caliper.

As to freeing off the old one, push the piston back in with a clamp and work it in and out a few times using the brake pedal to push the piston out and a clamp to push it back in. Might be worth taking off the dust seal and checking for a crud build up too.

Yearst,

Pull out the dust boot & check that the piston is free of obvious corrosion/crap.

Use a G clamp or something, to push the piston fully back into the caliper. This will lubricate it with fluid.

Replace dust boot.

Re-assembly is the reverse of dissemblance...etc.

If you need the brake rebuild kits I have a few around, you can have 1 cheap.
