Shift slower and bear in mind that second is not directly down from first, it's down and to the left slightly.

Gear shift should be perfect imo. Maybe there is a nearby owner who will let you try theirs to compare.

When did you last change gearbox oil, and what is it using?

Hi, I'm in Southport so fairly close to you. Whilst I know absolutely chuff all about gears mine has always been quite clunky changing from first to second when cold, gets better when warm though. I also have a 2005 with 19k miles, happy to meet up and compare if that would help?

No problem, give me a shout if I can help, I don't mind heading your way. Is the promenade open again yet?!

I was lucky to find my 2005 with low mileage, it was a one owner 4 year old car with 11k miles when I got it almost 2 years ago. I work 4 miles from home so the mileage stays fairly low

I have an 04 and mine's a bit clunky from 1st to 2nd when the box is cold it certainly a lot smoother when the oil is warm. Had an oil change soon aftr getting mine (19,000 miles) made it a little better I've now got 28,000.

Hi mate,

This is probably my 1st post on here, but I have been browsing the forum for about 5 years!!

Anyway I have a 2002 and I'm in Blackpool, you're welcome to come and have a feel of the gears etc. I don't think it is any worse than when I bought the car and I believe it is spot on. Send me a PM or something.

Thanks

Phil

I also have a 2005 with 28,000 on it. The change from 1st to 2nd is clunky but eases up considerably after a service and a chage of gearbox oil. Once the engine is warm though, it's fine.

I'm in Preston if you need any help.

Bit of a further drive, but I'm in Warrington if you want another opinion?
