Default Bleeping when ignition turned off - why ??

I'm not sure if I am just being stupid but my car seems to randomly bleep and flash the green key light on the dash when I turn off the ignition.

It doesn't always do it and seems to have no logic behind it.

Has anyone else experienced this, can anyone explain it or am I just being stupid?

Matt

p.s. I forget who recommended it on the UK list but many thanks for the airbox tip. I had read about it on the main US area but hadn't bothered to do it - big mistake - it makes the car sound like it should with a real grown up enigine. Just annoyed I didn't do it earlier during the summer when the roof was down a lot more :

The car does have the worlds most annoying "you've left the keys in the ignition and opened the door" warning bleeper - is this what you're hearing?

I've read that it is possible to disable this by tweaking some wires under the dash....

Yup!... either the key in the ignition with the ignition off and driver's door open, or sidelights/headlights left on with ignition off and door open.

Don't complain about either... one stops you locking your keys in the car and the other stops you running your battery flat!

Aint we all! The times I've left me fog lights on on the foggy mornings we used to get. If you locked your keys in this car you'd be in real lumber with the remote attached to them!!

Also the flashing of the green key light in the dash is normal - it's the immobiliser arming.

personally I'd love to stop the keys in igintion warning - I like to have the car radio on when I'm working on it in the garage which means having the keys in, whenever the drivers door is open it means the soul destroying bleeping....(unless you turn the key to the ignition setting which always make me worry about the coils etc....)

It was me who put up the post..... but the credit has to go to MattR from Telford who actually demonstrated it to me when we got together to discuss clutch problems. My airbox lid is now stored in my garage
