BMW 530d
Gad, absolutely my thoughts entirely.
Thing is, these people tend to be non-thinkers, who have swallowed everything the journos have said in the mags.
They've been banging on for years how a BMW Diesel is better than Sylvia Krystel & Lurpak, so they 'must be seen to have it'.
I love branding. It's the new religion.

its prob a work car.. and D's are cheaper on tax and stuff i guess?
I would rather it was the M3 one of the directors run. Or even better my old Saab with 280 BHP. Mind you any Q car would keep me happy!
I have to say I HATED BMW's before I was forced in to mine. I still HATE the image but I have to admit the 330D is actually a good drivers car despite the price, marketing and hype
It doesn't matter how fast they are ...... they all still sound like a London taxi when stationary and your hands stink when you've filled them up - regardless of wearing gloves !
I think if I got a diesel "performance" car the wife would divorce me ..... and I couldn't blame her.
Our work 530d's only manage 17 to the gallon when thrashed so they are not that economical either!

That's back to the RX-8 argument - People won't buy them because of the consumption.
Yet if one works out the saving over, say, a BMW 3xxCi on price/finance/depreciation/car tax, it's a no-brainer.
Squirt is much cheaper in real terms than it was in the 'fifties, yet people still have that mentality.
Yes, the Jaguar V12 is a memorable powerplant. There's nothing quite like it.

I ain't convinced.

I inherited a 330d sport as a company car. I was an inverted snob with them and although I know accept it is a good car it is not
