Default Bottom end gone

Evening all

So yesterday my bottom end decided to start knocking 🙃🙃 and to be fair it's just ticked over 130,000 miles, it's been to the ring 4 times and done around 7 UK track days so thought it might come a point where it'll finally let go. I was just wondering what you guys in a similar situation have done, I'm in two minds whether to buy a second hand one or get tgm to rebuild mine with a spoon kit. Want to try find some reviews with regarding a rebuild with the spoon kit. I've spent so much money on the rest of the car it's a shame to not keep it going! Any help/advice would be most appreciated thanks! Want to get it back on the road before the summer ends hopefully!

There is an 04MY engine with 31k miles on the clock for sale on the Facebook group but he wants top dollar for it, £4000.

Thanks for the replies, I think that's what I'm looking to do to be honest, will an 04-05 fit into my 2001 without any mods at all? I can reduce the price of that engine as he's including dash, barrels/keys, loom and ecu. I take it I can use my 01 ecu for it? Tried doing some research but kept finding ap2 engine info from America.

Before you do anything just be 100% sure that your bottom end has failed.

Get the engine checked out and go from there.

You can just swap the engine so no issues with immo etc.

Drain the oil and drop the oil pan and check for bearing material first.

What ? Friday this week Which Spoon kit are you referring to ? I think we've almost got to the price point with used F20Cs that at £7K, a Spoon blueprinted bottom end it looking a viable prospect ( if they still have them that is - I doubt they have a whole rack of them sitting on a shelf )

The Speed Academy guys on YouTube have just found metal in their sump and are taking the engine apart -
will be interesting to see the route they decide on.

I,lol have you old engine if it's scrap , my son and I already have his apart and are mid rebuild , the big problem it's seems to us with the crank journals is the very tight clearances and the various ID and OD options for the shells all of which are letter stamped on the block and colour coded on the crank Refinishing the crank to similar tolerances to the factory would be hard as getting the right shells for the under size journals would be , Clearances on TOBY,S mains are around .001" so very small and when we reassemble with new unworn shells even smaller . Wouldn't mind betting these are the areas where rebuilds fail.

i,would not have , but he has had new cast iron ductile liners fitted in the block .
