Default Car broken.....

Hi

I had a pretty crap Christmas Eve, went out for a topless drive as the weather was nice. All of a sudden the car lost all power and 3 warning lights came on: VSA light, the Traction control indicator (exclamation light) and the engine management light. I was on a main road at the time which was pretty scary as the car wouldn't go any quicker than 23ish mph, it could've been catastrophic if I was on the motorway!!!

I pulled over and found that the engine was ticking over at around 3k and there was a burning smell. Just to add I have also noticed recently that when accelerating the car has occasionally been hesitant at times.

The AA bloke plugged in the reader and it said there was an issue with the throttle actuator, he advised that he didn't reset the code and that I have it taken to Honda when they reopen which will be tomorrow (27/12/11).

So all in all I'm pretty fed up and have no idea what is wrong!! I can't see how the throttle actuator would cause the VSA to light up?!?!

Any idea welcome!!

Merry Christmas!

Hi mate...
You have an 09 Berlina don't you? Did Honda fix your engine rattle, otherwise its wait and see from Honda tomorrow. Fingers crossed than its good news and not bad. If its actuator or sensor related (thats failed), then better than engine death.
I dont mean to sound patronising, but is there plenty of oil in there?

VSA would certainly be connected to the throttle sensor, and probably the actuator too, so that's believable.

There's been a few VSA ECU failures reported here IIRC, for which you pretty much have to buy a new one.

Are these expensive to replace?
