Default Castrol Edge

Hi all,

Was in Halfords (yes I know), with the intention of buying some oil for the S2k. Usually I get Mobil 1, but they didn't have any 5w30 which is recommended in the handbook. Last time I phoned the Honda dealer and they said that 0w40 was okay.

Anyway, I was wondering if anyone had any experience of Castrol Edge oil 5w30. Is this suitable? It is very expensive and they say that it is Castrol's best oil.

Cheers

Dave

Castrol Edge is the old RS re-branded. It is good and should be OK in the S. If you look on the castrol website you can check the oils they recommend for the S2000

They recommend EDGE SPORT 0W-40 for best protection or

GTX MAGNATEC FOR MODERN ENGINES 10W-40 as an alternative

Spooky - in the space of a few hours Castrol have changed their recomendation from "0W-40 Sport" to "refer to technical" TBH 0W-30 sounds like it will be OK and is closest to what the handbook says.

EDIT - more info - OK more weirdness the 0W-30 and 5W-30 castrol oils are the old long life ones. These oils were developed so that Audi and BMW could offer the extended service interval. Makes no sense in the S2000 with it's short service intervals. The 0W-40 oil is the old Castrol RS by another name. Frankly I'd use whichever is cheaper.

(Cheap being a relative term in this context )
