Just got the right cable, trying to install my Sony head units cage and the fit is horrible. Those little tabs that you bend to hold it in place have nothing to grip, how are you meant to install it properly!

Surely I can't be the only person to have this. Every time I slide the head unit in it moves the cage into the dashboard!

Help!

Ive also tried using the brackets off the old unit but they won't screw into the Sony unit

Coincidentally I've been fitting a new Alpine head unit today Deadly.

I didn't use the cage, just the two side mounting clips.

Have you removed the radio door & surrounding vent trim piece? I think that might make things a bit easier

Hi mate, yeah I have. Struggling to find screws that will attach to the side of the head unit which aren't too long but big enough to grip the head unit.

This is weird, never had this issue before.

SORTED!

Had to force the screws to make a thread and they bit. All installed now.

Muc better than the prehistoric Honda unit.

I see you've sorted it now, but yeah just use the two side screws for the head unit don't bother messing around with the cage!

Think I just bolted up the mounting brackets from the OEM.

Having a decent 50W MOSFET Amp makes a huge difference over the OEM crap. I do wonder why they bother.

The Civic just had a blank plate when we imported it.

Yeah all sorted, thanks for the replies fellas. I had to force the screwdriver in a bit to enlarge the holes on the headunit slightly, but then they bit and went in. Just used those funny shaped brackets and away I went. Love it now. Although as mentioned the speakers in the doors leave a lot to be desired, so Im sure at some point I may look at replacing them, but other more pressing things to sort with my lovely toy ;o)
