Default changing centre console on MY00

Hi

I've changed to a MY05 centre console and the fitter advised that the connector will not fit for this function? Is anyone aware of anything that will make enable the button to be connected?

Is there an alternative?

cheers

Have you got a hardtop, i.e the wiring for the heater?

If yes you will either need to add a relay as the 05 system is relay controlled, the 00 system is a push on/push off switch then connect wires accordingly by resoldering. To be honest it isn't worth it.

The other option is to physically cobble together the switches by gutting the new one, cutting the top off the old one and super gluing them together. Plug will fit and you will have a working switch (with lights if you are cunning). I did the latter and it was a tedious yet enjoyable process. Being anal I also masked around the heater picture and sprayed it flat black to remove the mirror picture. Sadly no photos available.

One point to mention is you will NEVER need to use the heated softtop screen if you have hardtop. I knew this but did the mod anyway!

I've done the same in my car, and I only know of one person who has successfully sorted this. They took it to a car electrician who made some kind of adaptor for him.

Bear in mind that the plug on the +04 centre console also activated the heated wing mirrors (which you don't get on the eariler cars), so that's why the plug is different. Also that means not all the pins are needed to get the rear window heater to work. Which pins are for which heater I don't know. I've got a wiring diagram for the eariler car/plug. If I had the wiring diagram for the +04 cars I'd be able to get it to work.

02 cars have the relay due to the factory fit glass screen. Pre 02 don't, hence the additional (and fundamental) complication

Didn't know that. That explains why my wiring diagram is for a 02-03 car, and not a 99-03 car.
