I have been so tempted with the Lotus's so many times, every year I get the itch and take one out but then part of me still loves the S2000 even if it's not just as good on track without

I was very close to buying an Elise and having it fitted with a charged K20A - economics persuaded me to keep the S and charge that and it has been marvellous. The only reliability issues have been SC related which I have dealt with and has in turn taught me a lot about the car - indeed feel I have a lot better understanding about the set up as a result. Have done track and airfield days since and really felt the difference, better still took her for a blast in the mountains in the South of France yesterday and fell in love all over again

Mines been SC'ed for 15k miles, done 4-5 track days and 2-3 Eurohoons.
It is great fun on the track.
One thing you need to consider is eventually you will do some panel damage and other stress stuff like wheel bearings etc.
Are you comfortable with that?
Have a closer look at the Rotrex mountings several have failed and I'm not sure it would put up with the abuse of track days.
I've not got an oil cooler and I cna get the oil up to 120C on a track day.
I do have a larger rad though.
From my experience the SC will be OK it will be other stuff that limits you, like brakes, tyres and cooling.
Do a search on Krazik's car he has track prepped SCed car IIRC

This would be my biggest worry but I haven't had any problems since I installed some upgraded parts just over a year ago.

The mountings survived the Arran roads so I am now quite confident it would be ok on the track ...... and as I now have a quiet exhaust I will now be able to track the car.

IIRC the Rotrex is less than half the weight of the Comptech/Vortech SC so should work better on the track with less weight over the nose of the car.

Nice to hear from two charged guys

I didn't know about the rotrex mounts, thats put me off a bit now?

I am not too fussed about tyres, brakes, cooling etc I will uprate all that to suit its the other non obvious bits I am more worried about, like the rotrex mounts for instance.

My main concern is the gearbox and engine, I really don't want to pop either of them on track

Mikey, is your oil ok at 120c?

Also the weight of the charger over the nose is something I have considered, I will remove the air pump and probably air con so that should help a bit?

Random question but track related, anyone over this side of the pond tried wider front tyres? like +225?

225 on the front wouldn't be nice imo.

I found the weight over the front on the Vortech to be very noticable.

Hence i'd prefer the Rotrex.

Well, i've just bought some 225 tyres for the front of my car.

They'll be mating upto 245s on the back.

I'll let you know how it turns out.

Oil should be ok upto 140

Depends on the viscosity at 140c, as Ron hints at.

I'd be running a higher viscosity fully synth personally.

Maybe a 10w 50.

Mmmm... Rotrex is something I got close to doing. Really close.
I bought another car instead. A lot more money but I have more cars

For track, and like Dave it depends on the next years income, I would buy an old race car like Clio, Golf etc.
These will be quicker than the S2000 anyway and cheap to replace.
You'll spend about 7K at the end of this path is my guess?

Once you do a few track events in the Honda, it becomes very apparent that lack of power is NOT the issue.
Fun is not equal to strightline speed, but is equal to cornering ability.
So lose weight, and improve grip.

LOADS of the US boys run 245 on the front. You may have to pull the arch a little but its a common place mod.
Some aero mods and the grip is up massively.
Look at the C-West wind tunnel data for the perentage reductions in lift on the S2000. Very interesting!
